3D printed artificial muscle
An ultra-powerful synthetic muscle
Researchers at Columbia University created a soft artificial muscle capable of lifting 1,000 times its own weight. As well as three times the strength as human muscles, it has 15 times more distortion capacity. The 3D-printed muscle's contraction is controllable by low-power electricity and is the first time such solution not to require external compressors. The muscle can push, pull, bend and lift weight. 

Big progress has already been made on robots' "minds" but their appearance is still very primitive. This innovation is a step closer to the creation of lifelike robots. The fact that the muscle does not require outside control also opens the way to robots that are capable of moving and working independently.
