Using Apple's ResearchKit, researchers at Duke University, North Carolina created an app that can screen children for autism from the age of 18 months. This is a significant benefit as the average age of detection is currently four. The app is based on videos that provoke stimul. The device's camera analyses their reaction in comparison to standard patterns.
Smartphone-based solutions like Autism & Beyond bring screening within reach for far more people as they are cheaper, non-invasive and require no specialised training.
