A standardized pan-India, digital address system
With eLoc, MapmyIndia seeks to identify all the country’s places (buildings, businesses, cities, villages, roads, etc.) by a 6-character code (e.g. MMI000). The goal? Standardize the address system and make precise navigation possible in a country where few places have a formal address and where various dialects, languages and cultures cohabit. If any place is missing or changes, users can add them on MapmyIndia’s website or mobile app.
What Aadhaar is to people, eLoc is to addresses. This crowdsourced data collection has a purely practical and logistical purpose. The creation of the database is quite helpful for Indian citizens since it enables them to search and share destinations; making communication and travel smoother.
