Declaring births by text message
In Côte d’Ivoire, 3 million children have no birth certificate, depriving them of schooling or, later, the right to vote.
IT programmer Jean Delmas created Môh Ni Bah (“congratulations!”), a project that lets parents declare births simply and securely by text message.
2,000 babies have been registered so far.
The digital divide can cause exclusion. But even a frugal infrastructure can bridge it, connecting people to wider society.
