Microscopic robot moving and building molecules
Scientists at Manchester University have created an organic “molecular robot”. The robot's main task is to carry out a set of molecule-building commands, using a tiny robotic arm. The robot —composed of only 150 nitrogen, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen atoms— can perform programmed chemical reactions under specific guidance from scientists.
This innovation is an important step in artificial intelligence-supported nanotechnology according to its creators and could open the way to multiple applications from new drug advancement to miniaturised systems development.
